Incendiary Festival was founded in 2017 in Rosebud Alberta. It was originally intended as an opportunity for new theatre artists to test out experimental theatre techniques like site-specific shows and devising and has only grown from there. 

To get a greater understanding of the company and its values, you need only to look at the name. 

Incendiary: There are several definitions of the word incendiary that go beyond its fiery origin. It’s about invoking change, bringing people together, and providing a performance that isn’t easily forgotten. When we look at the theater scene in Calgary, we see a lack of opportunities for emerging artists, especially opportunities that get them outside their comfort zone creatively. Even if it's just a couple of sparks in the dark, we want to change that. 

Festival: While our company is not a festival in the traditional scene, we strive to carry the same energy as some of the biggest creative arts festivals in the world. Every corner you turn at these mass gatherings gives you something new to discover. We want each of our projects to feel like a fresh, new experience that our audience and team members get to explore. What’s more, festivals are ridiculously fun! Being a small company with minimal resources, we can’t offer everything to artists that we would like, but we can always offer a fun environment to test out something new. 

Like a bonfire, Incendiary Festival strives to be a spot for connection, laughter, and long conversations. Grab a marshmallow and join in on the fun!
